  1. I’m really looking forward to this series. One question: my understanding is that nowadays for those of us who are not famous writers like you, even with traditional publishers we have to build our own fan base and do our own publicity. Is that wrong?

    • Correct. When traditional publishers evaluate an author’s manuscript, they also evaluate the author’s “platform,” which means their social media outreach (webpage, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, etc.). The larger the fan base, the better the chances of getting a contract.
